October 9 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm EDT

Community cancer incidence has long been considered unknowable on the grounds that it is “statistically insignificant”.  This talk makes a case for what we can learn about cancer as an anthropogenic disease shaped by environmental exposures if we prioritize human significance over rigid mathematical thresholds. It introduces a novel tool called PCIST, and shows how the tool is empowering us to plainly see the cancerous consequences of community exposures to fossil fuel and petrochemical production in both children and adults.
